StandbyCalc — UK standby battery calculator

Frequently Asked Questions

Which standards does StandbyCalc support?

Intruder alarms follow BS EN 50131 / BS 9263 (Grades 1-4). Fire alarms follow BS 5839-1:2025 Annexe E (Categories L, M, P). The app is compliant with NSI and SSAIB requirements.

What is the ageing factor?

All calculations include a 1.25 ageing factor as required by the standards. This accounts for 25% battery capacity degradation over the battery's lifespan.

What is the de-rating factor for fire alarms?

The standard de-rating factor is 1.75 per BS 5839-1:2025. This can be adjusted in the app if operating conditions warrant a different value (range 1.0-2.5).

What does Pro include?

StandbyCalc Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks PDF report generation with company branding, iCloud sync across devices, and removes advertisements. All calculations are free and always will be.

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

Go to Settings in the app and tap "Restore Purchases". Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.

Where is my data stored?

All data is stored locally on your device. If you enable iCloud sync (Pro), your saved calculations sync across your devices via your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your data.

Can I use StandbyCalc for compliance documentation?

Yes. The PDF reports include full calculation working and reference the applicable British Standard. They are suitable for inclusion in installation certificates and compliance documentation for NSI and SSAIB inspections.
