ExitPath: Emergency Lighting — Coming soon to the App Store

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ExitPath?

ExitPath is an emergency lighting log book for iPhone, based on BS 5266-1. It keeps a register of every light, lets you tick through the monthly flick test on one screen, records the annual full-duration test, tracks failures through to a passing retest, and exports a PDF log book.

Who is it for?

Emergency lighting engineers and electricians, responsible persons, premises and facilities managers, and HMO landlords.

Is ExitPath available yet?

Not yet. ExitPath is coming soon to the App Store. This page will link to it as soon as it’s live.

How do the monthly and annual tests work?

Add each luminaire and lit sign to the light register. The monthly flick test is one screen covering every light: mark each as Pass, Fail or Not accessible, or use “Mark all remaining as Pass”. The annual test is a full-duration test, set against the system duration you chose for the building (for example 1 h or 3 h). A whole-building annual test also counts as that month’s monthly test. A recharge helper shows when the batteries should be ready: about 24 hours for self-contained lights, and about 12 hours to 80% for central batteries.

Can I split the annual test?

Yes, if you prefer. It’s an option in the app, not something you have to do. You can test the building in two halves, A and B, on different days: turn on “Test in two halves (A/B)” in the building’s details and put each light in Group A or Group B in the register. ExitPath reminds you about Group B if it’s still outstanding a week after Group A. Lights marked Not accessible show as a gap in your annual cover on the dashboard until they have been tested.

What happens when a light fails?

Each failed light opens a failure. Record the action taken (battery replaced, lamp or LED module replaced, luminaire replaced, fuse or supply fixed, or other), any temporary measures and who they were agreed with. A battery or luminaire replacement sets up a full-duration retest, with a reminder 24 hours after you mark the failure as rectified. Other actions get a functional retest. A passing retest closes the failure.

How does ExitPath relate to BS 5266-1?

ExitPath is based on BS 5266-1 and helps you keep the records BS 5266-1 recommends. It is a record-keeping tool: it does not test, inspect or sign off your system, and it does not replace the periodic inspection and test certificate from your emergency lighting engineer. BS 5266-1 is a British Standard published by BSI. ExitPath and D4N LTD are not affiliated with or endorsed by BSI.

How do I export the PDF log book?

Open a building, choose Export PDF, pick the date range and sections you need, then share, print or save it to Files. The wide tables print on A4 landscape pages. Entries that have been edited are marked as edited on the PDF. The PDF is a record, not an inspection and test certificate.

What does the free version include?

One building with full logging, reminders, PDF export and iCloud sync across your devices. There are no ads and no time limit.

What does ExitPath Pro include?

Unlimited buildings, archiving of old buildings, and your company name, logo and contact details on PDFs. Pro is £14.99 a year with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers, or £44.99 once for lifetime access.

How do I cancel the yearly subscription or free trial?

Open the Settings app, then go to [your name] → Subscriptions → ExitPath and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial or current year ends to avoid being charged. Deleting the App does not cancel the subscription.

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

Open the ExitPath Pro screen in the App and tap “Restore purchase”. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to buy Pro.

What happens if my subscription ends?

Nothing is deleted. You choose one building to keep editing; the other buildings stay viewable and can still be exported to PDF.

Where is my data stored? Do I need to sign up?

No sign-up is needed. Your log book is kept in the app, so your records stay with you. iCloud sync keeps your records in your own private iCloud account. We cannot see your data. See the Privacy Policy.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. You can log tests and events and export PDFs without a connection. iCloud sync catches up the next time you are online.

How do I move my log book to a new iPhone?

Turn on iCloud sync on both devices using the same Apple ID and your records will sync. Your data is also included in your normal iPhone backup and restore. Exporting a PDF is also a good way to keep a copy.

I’m not getting reminders

Check that notifications are allowed for ExitPath in iOS Settings → Notifications, and that reminders are turned on for the building in the App, with a monthly reminder day and time set. Focus modes can also hide reminders.
